The role of human rights defenders and responsible investors in achieving a just transition
Renewable energy is a high-risk sector for defenders to work in, and we are seeing an alarming rise in attacks, threats and harassments against human rights and environmental defenders all over the globe.
From another perspective, financial actors are crucial enablers of an energy transition that is inclusive, fair, and environmentally sustainable.
During the autumn Swedwatch has had defenders and investors in the renewable sector as a priority in our work. Join us for an event when we present our findings, and examines the pivotal role of human rights and environmental defenders in creating a just and equitable energy transition, and the challenges they face. Hear from experts on the front lines of environmental and social justice, and gain insights from experts in international trade and in sustainable investment.
Participants: Defenders from Instituto Terramar in Brazil – who works to protect the collective and individual rights of traditional coastal communities - and from Red de Abogadas Defensoras de Derechos Humanos in Honduras – a network of female community lawyers working to protect human rights of communities - and representatives from Business Sweden and Swedfund.
A light meal will be served, and there will be a bar. The invite is +1, and you are welcome to forward the invite to anyone you think might be interested in attending.
